Colin Calloway grew up in the north of England and received his BA and PhD from the University of Leeds. After marrying an American, he resigned a tenured college position in England and moved to the United States, where he taught high school for several years, served for two years as assistant director at the D'Arcy McNickle Center for the History of the American Indian at the Newberry Library in Chicago, and taught for seven years at the University of Wyoming. He has been at Dartmouth since 1995. He and his wife have raised two children and live in Vermont.
